Students admitted to the . in F-1 visa status are monitored by the University, through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), a government database. SEVIS is designed to accommodate traditional academic institutions. Due to the nontraditional format of the University of Phoenix doctoral residency requirements, however, the University is authorized to issue an I-20 that is only valid for the duration of each residency at the Phoenix Main Campus. International students admitted to a doctoral program cannot remain in the United States between residencies under the I-20 and/or F-1 status.
